Art Projects: Art I: Studio Foundations
(2018-2019 school year and 2019-2020 school year)
Overview of the course:
This is an introductory course to the visual arts. The content covers a variety of artmaking: drawing, painting, color theory, three-dimensional design, techniques in perspective, printmaking, fibers etc. Students will be exposed to art history and visual arts careers. Students will learn and incorporate the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design into their projects. This course is a hands-on project-based course. The class will function like an “art laboratory” where everyone is working, sharing ideas and learning together. Beyond the concepts and skills essential to making projects by hand, it is hoped that this course will promote critical thinking about, and a direct, hands-on engagement with, art. Class time is primarily focused on students building upon their technical skills and critically responding to various art example through projects. My class hosts many special partnerships with: The Print Center, The Shutterbugs, The Philadelphia Flower Show and Temple University: Tyler School of Art, Dreamline, The Mural Arts Program, Google Doodle etc.
